The Arlington Fire Department is committed to the saving of lives and preservation of property through efficient and effective operations, prevention activities, public education, and preparation for management of disasters.

Long Range Goals for 2008

Support 46 - Arlington gets a new Community Support Vehicle
Trained Community Emergency Response Teams (CERT) staff the unit on a voluntary basis. Volunteer community members who are trained in emergency disaster response staff the unit and will respond to incidents in support of firefighters, police officers, and members of the public on a daily basis.

The Support 46 Unit will allow members of the public and emergency personnel a place in which to get out of the weather during various kinds of emergency calls, or just providing some hot beverages and a dry space on extended events.

Although the CERT program is geared towards organizing members of the community to take care of their neighborhoods during disasters, Arlington is one of the few communities that is looking for ways to expand the role of these community volunteers both in the disaster setting and on a day-to-day basis. The vehicle is a retired aid car that has been equipped utilizing private donations.

For more information on Support 46, or the City's CERT Program, call 360.403.3600.
