Overview
Arlington welcomes economic development that complements the City’s exceptional quality of life. Situated adjacent to Interstate 5 and convenient to the Seattle metropolitan area, the City offers industrial, commercial and retail zoning in close proximity to family-oriented residential areas. In fact, Arlington boasts an unusually high jobs-to-population ratio and is home to a wide variety of aerospace, manufacturing, construction and technology businesses. The community has an exceptional public school system and offers outstanding recreational opportunities. The Arlington Airport, owned by the City, is one of the state’s premier general aviation airports, and is the site of the annual Northwest EAA Fly-In, attracting over 50,000 visitors from throughout the United States and Canada.
Economic Development Plan
In 2004 the City Council authorized development of a plan that would guide the City on activities related to business attraction and retention. The policy document, completed in 2005, is known as the Economic Development Plan, and it has become an important part of the City’s Comprehensive Plan. The Economic Development Plan, available above, is comprehensive and long term. The original Plan offers the reader a complete overview of the analysis and public input that went into this blueprint for the City’s development.
To address the need for access to current updates on economic development projects in the City, an Economic Development Matrix, also available above, was developed in 2009. The Matrix offers information on each of more than sixty projects located in the three geographic areas of the City – Airport District, East Arlington and West Arlington. Simply click on a project of interest for the latest updates. The Matrix serves as a working document providing both the public and City employees with the latest information on the status of economic development in Arlington.
New in 2010
In partnership with the Arlington Arts Council, the City is working on developing new gateway and directional signage that will be installed at strategic locations throughout Arlington.
The Arlington Airport Business Park, located on 89 acres in the southwest section of the Airport, is being developed as a mixed use project designated for aerospace, general commercial, business support retail, office space, research and development and light manufacturing uses.
