Public Works Maintenance and Operations

Airport Maintenance Division

 

The Airport Maintenance Department consists of 3 full-time and 3 part-time employees, which provides inspections, maintenance, and repairs for the entire infrastructure of the Arlington Municipal Airport.

 

We perform daily inspections of the runways, taxiways, taxi lanes, aprons and ramps, pavement and shoulders, pavement markings, lights, lighted and unlighted signs, reflectors and navigation aides, and the airport recreational path, to ensure the safety and convenience for all aircraft operations and users of the airport facilities.

We are responsible for the following maintenance and repairs

 

  • 122 Runway and Taxiway Lights and their operating systems
  • 4 Precision Approach Path Indicator systems
  • 3 Runway End Identifier Lights systems
  • The Rotating Beacon, Lighted Windsock and Segmented circle
  • 301 Taxiway Reflectors
  • 31 Lighted Field Signs and their operating systems
  • 71 Unlighted Reflective Field Signs
  • 484 street, informational and path signs

  • 108 separate hangar units, 14 hangar storage units, and 4 public restrooms
  • The Airport Office building and 5 other leased buildings
  • 83 catch basins, 2.7 miles of open ditches, 2 large sediment ponds, 1200 lineal feet of covered concrete lined ditch, and 28 ‘French Drainage’ systems
  • Over 10 miles of fencing including 23 gates (2 of them are automated)
  • Approximately 5.5 miles of recreational path
  • Approximately 2.7 acres of landscaping
  • Over 480 acres of turf grass

In addition the Airport Maintenance Crew:

 

  • Provides assistance to several Community Events held at facilities provided by the Arlington Airport, including the annual Arlington Fly In, Aviation Day, and the Arlington Drag Strip Reunion.
  • Responds to Aircraft Related Incidents.
  • Performs snow and ice removal on all operating areas of the airport.
  • Implements several improvement projects each year.
